Symposium Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker 80th birthday
09.09.2021 – 10.09.2021
On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, the founding director of the Gene Center Munich, a scientific symposium will be held at the BMC from September 9-10, 2021. Many high-ranking guests from politics and academia are expected to attend, with whom Prof. Winnacker has worked throughout his life.
Well-known scientists, including the two Nobel Prize winners Emmanuelle Charpentier and Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, will give insights into their exciting research topics. The lectures cover the latest findings on research into DNA, RNA and proteins such as CRISPR-Cas9, the functioning of ribosomes, mRNA packaging, DNA-protein interactions, protein folding, the influence of hormones on the genome and the structural biology of the genome. In addition, current topics in cancer research are presented, how our innate immune system recognizes nucleic acids, the current status of xenotransplantation and the function and evolution of biological aesthetics in animals are discussed. The evening keynote from Patrick Cramer on Thursday combines the life of Prof. Winnacker with DNA research. The event is rounded off by an interview with Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker and a concert with cello and grand piano in his honor on Friday afternoon. Please find attached the schedule.
