Du möchtest ein ehemaliges Transekt reaktivieren oder kennst eine perfekte neue Route für das Tagfalter-Monitoring? Melde Dich gerne bei uns – wir freuen uns über jede Unterstützung!
Der LBV baut das Tagfalter‑Monitoring Deutschland (TMD) in Bayern gezielt weiter aus. Der Fokus liegt auf Hochschulen und BANU‑Absolvent*innen zur Reaktivierung ehemaliger Tag- falter‑Zählrouten (Transekte) sowie der Einrichtung sinnvoller neuer Transekte im Hochschulumfeld, die langfristig von Studierenden betreut werden können. Gemeinsam verbessern wir die Datengrundlage zu Tagfaltern in Bayern und unterstützen damit u.a. die Berechnung des Grassland‑Butterfly‑Index (GBI) und liefern belastbare Zahlen für den Artenschutz!

Die LMU bietet im Sommersemester 2026 erneut das Zertifikat „LMU inklusiv - Ein Zertifikat für Inklusion“ an. Dieses Programm richtet sich an alle Lehramtsstudierenden, die einen gezielten inhaltlichen Schwerpunkt auf Inklusion sowie Heterogenitätsfassetten legen und sich optimal auf die zukünftige Arbeit in heterogenen Klassen vorbereiten möchten.Das Zertifikat ist zudem eine Würdigung für dieses Interesse und bestätigt, dass entsprechende inklusive Kompetenzen erworben wurden.
Darüber hinaus soll mit Hilfe des Zertifikates und der zugehörigen Belegempfehlung sichtbar werden, wie vielfältig die Lehrveranstaltungen sind, die die LMU rund um das Thema Inklusion und Heterogenität bereitstellt. Es dient somit als eine Art fachspezifisches Vorlesungsverzeichnis für diese zentralen Themenbereiche.
BayIND Stipendien
Das BayIND Stipendium wird zweimal jährlich für Aufenthalte in ganz Indien vergeben.
Fördersumme: abhängig von der Dauer sowie der Art des Aufenthaltes

A PhD can be an exciting academic adventure, a major career step and several years of highly specialised work. It offers the chance to dive deeply into a topic you care about and can be a great opportunity for personal development. But it can also mean uncertainty, pressure, and dependence on a supervisor. So how do you decide whether it is the right path for you?
In this webinar, we will first take a look at what a PhD actually is, and what to consider before starting; what expectations you may encounter from yourself and from your future supervisor and lab. We will discuss how to find PhD positions, choose a topic, lab, (university, city,) and supervisor, and how to prepare for interviews.
Marie and Simon will also share their personal experiences and will explore life during a PhD: freedom and growth, but also failed experiments, stress, and difficult decisions. Finally, we will look beyond the doctorate and ask how a PhD may shape your career prospects in- and outside academia.
This session is for anyone wondering: PhDo or PhDon’t?M. Sc. Marie-Charlott Petersdorf (PhD candidate at Radboud University, NL) studied biology at the University of Cologne and completed her master’s degree at Ruhr University Bochum. Since 2021, she has been pursuing her PhD at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in the field of soil ecology — while once again asking herself the question: What should come next? Having worked in four different countries, she brings with her a diverse mix of scientific experience, international perspectives and very personal insights.Dr. Simon Häußler (VBIO e.V., München) studied bioprocess engineering at Furtwangen University, completed a master’s degree in biology at LMU Munich and received his PhD in cell biology there in 2021. Since 2022, he has been working at VBIO in Munich, where, among other things, he organises and moderates webinars on career orientation for students and early-career professionals.

The BMC Diversity Initiative has invited three distinguished Munich-based scientists to present their current research in translational optoacoustics (Miguel Pleitez), lipid metabolism and metabolic diseases (Susanna Hofmann), and oncolytic virus-based cancer immunotherapeutics (Jennifer Altomonte). They will also share insights into the key experiences and challenges that have defined their careers in research. Meet-the-speaker sessions following the talks will offer opportunities for questions and open discussion.
This symposium aims to highlight that scientific excellence is best fostered by researchers with diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, as well as multifaceted personal and professional experiences.

The workshop consists of a 20–30 minute talk followed by the presentation of case studies, which are used to facilitate interactive discussion. After the session, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and speak informally with the speaker.
Abstract:
The importance of the integrity of research and its relationship to working culture has come under increasingly greater scrutiny over the last years. Inke’s work has focused on improving research culture and developing robust processes for responding when principles of research integrity are ignored. This reflects her deep commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion and the recognition that only diverse, inclusive research communities deliver the best for society. In the presentation, Inke will describe what research integrity entails and how it is linked to working culture. This will include ideas about how everyone can contribute to conducting research responsibly. Inke will share processes for addressing (potential) lack of research integrity and present case studies for discussion.

we are pleased to invite you to the Molecular Origins of Life Conference Munich (MOM 2026), taking place on 11 - 12 June 2026 in the Great Aula at LMU Munich.
The conference is organized by the CRC 392 – Molecular Evolution and will bring together researchers from biology, chemistry, biophysics, astronomy, and geosciences to explore some of the most important questions facing humanity: What were the conditions on early Earth? How did the very first genetic material develop? How could Darwinian evolution emerge?
MOM 2026 features a highly interdisciplinary speaker line-up, including Nobel Prize laureate Jack Szostak, speaking on “Information at the Dawn of Life.”

“Cross-Kingdom RNA communication and RNA-Based Technologies for Crop Disease Control”
Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, 12 o’clock, room B01.019
Hailing Jin is a leading researcher in the field of cross-kingdom RNA communication, a mechanism through which organisms exchange RNA molecules to regulate gene expression and cellular processes across species boundaries. Her pioneering work demonstrated that both small RNAs and mRNAs can move between plant hosts and fungal pathogens during infection, influencing plant immunity and pathogen virulence (Cai et al. Science 2018; Wang et al. Cell Host & Microbe 2024). More recently, her research has revealed key roles for extracellular vesicles in protecting and delivering these RNAs between interacting organisms (He et al. Nature Communications 2023). Professor Jin has also been at the forefront of developing RNA-based disease control strategies, showing that fungal pathogens can naturally take up environmental RNAs that can be engineered to silence virulence genes and suppress crop diseases (Wang et al. Nature Plants 2016). Her latest work extends cross-kingdom RNA communication to interactions between bacteria and fungi, demonstrating that engineered beneficial bacteria can deliver antifungal RNAs and protect plants against devastating fungal pathogens.
Professor Jin is Cy Mouradick Chair Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology at the University of California, Riverside (USA). She is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to plant-microbe interactions and RNA biology and has been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (2025), the National Academy of Inventors (2022), and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Microbiology, the American Phytopathological Society, and the American Association of Extracellular Vesicles. Her work continues to shape our understanding of interspecies communication and inspire innovative approaches for sustainable crop protection.

The LMU Open Science Center (OSC) is excited to announce the call for applications for its 5th hybrid open science summer school (OSSS26), deadline July 6!
This year's iteration of the Open Science Summer School once again has two tracks to provide participants with two sets of skills. You are invited to apply for one or both tracks. For either track, you can choose to participate either online or in-person (Philologicum Library, Ludwigstraße 25, Munich or on Zoom).
Track 1: Open Science knowledge and skills
In this track, early career researchers who are Open Science novices learn to make their research more transparent, reproducible and credible in the eyes of their peers, the public, and funding agencies. This track consists of public lectures accessible to anyone as well as hands-on practical workshops for selected applicants and extends from Monday 07.09.2026 9:00 to Friday 11.09.2026 16:00 (CEST).
Participants of this track learn how to:
- Specify research design and set up statistical plans in advance of collecting data to mitigate biases in analyses, with the help of preregistration and data simulation
- Create computationally reproducible workflows to be more efficient and spot mistakes in data wrangling or analyses, through programming with version controlled scripts
- Prepare and share data and code in connection with manuscripts by applying the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable principles, and using adequate repositories and licenses to accumulate credit and citations

Track 2: Open Science instructor training
In this track, early career researchers or research support staff interested in becoming Open Science instructors develop essential pedagogical skills to promote Open Science through teaching - no prior experience in teaching required. This track extends from Monday 14.09.2026 09:00 to Tuesday 15.09.2026 17:00 (CEST).
Participants of this track learn how to:
- Familiarize themselves and apply basic didactic techniques to effectively convey open science topics to learners in a supportive learning environment
- Learn how to design and deliver open science workshops to diverse audiences and across different settings
- Implement techniques to foster learners’ motivation and engagement with open science topics
- Develop skills to advocate for open science, to lead research groups and discussions around open science, and to analyse the potential challenges and issues around the implementation of open science practices
- Design their own workshop on an open science topic of their choice by applying the newly acquired skills and present the concept to other participants for future delivery
After joining this track, participants are strongly encouraged to (co-)deliver the workshop they designed with practical and logistical support from the LMU Open Science Center (if needed) to become a certified Open Science instructor.

Dear Colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to the International Marsilius Academy 2026 “Feel the Heat: Science and Histories of Fever”. It will take place from 20 to 25 September 2026 at the Marsilius Kolleg of Heidelberg University, Germany.
The deadline has been extended until 01 July 2026.
This multidisciplinary summer school explores fever not only as a biological and medical phenomenon, but also as a historical, cultural, political, and social experience. Bringing together scholars from the life and natural sciences, medicine, the humanities, and social sciences, the Academy aims to foster dialogue across disciplinary boundaries and to reflect on how societies have understood, experienced, represented, and managed fever across time and cultures.
Particular attention will be given to how febrile epidemics and pandemics have shaped societies, how debates surrounding prevention measures and vaccines generate trust or resistance, how fever has been culturally interpreted and experienced, and how infectious diseases continue to raise social, political, and ethical questions in both historical and contemporary contexts.
The Academy is aimed at Master’s students and PhD candidates from a broad range of disciplines, including medicine, the life and natural sciences, as well as the humanities, law, and the social and cultural sciences. Participants are expected to present the current status of their work in a poster session and short pitch presentation.
We are very pleased that many distinguished speakers from different academic fields and with diverse professional backgrounds and experiences have agreed to participate in the Academy, including experts from infectious diseases, virology, neuroscience, epidemiology, medical and cultural history, parasitology, archaeology, paleogenetics, and science journalism.
The extended application deadline is 01 July 2026.
Participation fee: 100 EUR (including accommodation and meals).
Travel expenses must be covered by the participants themselves.

Die Arbeitsgruppe von Prof. Nikolaos Koutsouleris an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München veranstaltet vom 21. bis 23. September 2026 die zweite ML School für Studierende, ein dreitägiges Intensivprogramm zu maschinellem Lernen in den Lebenswissenschaften. Der erste Pilotdurchgang war sehr erfolgreich, und wir möchten das Angebot nun auch gezielt für Studierende außerhalb der Humanmedizin öffnen.
Wir richten uns ausdrücklich an Studierende der Biologie, Biochemie, Humanbiologie, Chemie, Medizin, Public Health, Epidemiologie und verwandter Fächer.
Die Veranstaltung findet in Präsenz statt, voraussichtlich in einem Gebäude in der Pettenkoferstraße in München.
Was die Teilnehmenden mitnehmen:
Welche Fragestellungen sich für maschinelles Lernen eignen und welche Daten dafür benötigt werden. Wie Daten vorbereitet und Modelle trainiert werden, mit praktischen Übungen in kleinen Tutoraten. Wie typische Risiken erkannt werden: Validierung, Bias, Overfitting und Generalisierbarkeit. Wie KI-Studien korrekt gelesen und Ergebnisse sauber berichtet werden.
Programmierkenntnisse sind für die Teilnahme nicht erforderlich.

The School of Biomedical Sciences was officially established in 2010 under the Faculty of Medicine, and now has three Thematic Research Programmes, namely:

Our MPhil-PhD Programme in Biomedical Sciences is dedicated to cultivating research postgraduate students for prominent leadership roles across academia, industry, and beyond. This program will provide an excellent study opportunity for your master’s students who are considering advanced research training.

True cost accounting calculates the cost that dietary decisions have on our health and the environment. This workshop sheds light on the scientific background. It also explores pathways to internalize the negative impacts and shape consumption choices, helping to shift eating habits toward the planetary health diet (PHD).

Der Kurs ist laut DKFA insbesondere für diejenigen bestimmt, die bereits einen FIT-Deutsch-Intensivkurs besucht haben (also „FIT-gefördert“ sind), richtet sich jedoch ausdrücklich nicht nur an aktuelle oder ehemalige FIT-Teilnehmende, sondern *an alle immatrikulierten internationalen LMU-Studierenden in den ersten Fachsemestern*. Es handelt sich um eine Präsenzkurs abends. _Anders als im Anhang ist der Kurs gänzlich ohne Eigenanteil, also kostenlos.

Internship position in Kilpisjärvi Biological Station, Finland Kilpisjärvi Biological Station offers an Erasmus+ trainee position from 1st of June to 30th of September 2026. The dates of the internship are flexible, but at least a 4-month commitment is required. Deadline for applications is 4th of February 2026.

Internship Opportunity: Molecular Cell Biology / Glia-to-Neuron Reprogramming
We are looking for motivated students to join our project developing candidate cell therapies against obesity. The focus of the internship is on direct reprogramming of brain glial cells into neurons via transcription factor (TF) overexpression strategies.
Your tasks
- Molecular cloning of transcription factor coding sequences into expression vectors
- Verification of TF expression
- Participation in glia-to-neuron reprogramming assays
- Training in PCR, plasmid preparation and quality control, RT-qPCR, and cell culture (depending on internship duration)
What we offer
- Hands-on training in key methods of molecular cell biology

- Opportunity to further develop the project into a Master’s thesis
