The Faculty of Biology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Faculty 19) is one of the largest biology faculties in Germany and has a clear organizational structure. It is headed by the Faculty Board, which consists of the Dean, several Vice Deans, the Dean of Studies, and the Women's Representative.

The Faculty Board is supported by an administrative office, which provides administrative support to the departments. The Faculty Council, composed of ex officio and elected members, advises on fundamental matters concerning the faculty.

The Study Coordination Office is responsible for organizing studies, overseeing various bachelor's and master's programs, and international exchange.

The team of women's representatives promotes gender equality within the faculty and is represented in all committees. Overall, the faculty's organization ensures an efficient connection between research, teaching, and administration.

The Dean's Office is the central administrative unit of the faculty and performs a wide range of tasks in the areas of management, organization, and administration. It is headed by the Faculty Board, which is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the faculty and represents it externally.

The main tasks of the Dean's Office include planning and coordinating degree programs and courses, ensuring the quality of teaching and studies, and conducting doctoral and postdoctoral qualification procedures.

In addition, the Dean's Office is responsible for organizing and providing administrative support for committee work and internal and external communication. It acts as an interface between the university management, administration, teaching staff, and students and contributes significantly to the organizational and academic development of the faculty.

Sustainability at the faculty

Awareness of sustainability, environmental protection, biodiversity and climate change is growing in our society. As the Faculty of Biology, we see it as part of our social responsibility to research these topics and to make our research and teaching more sustainable. We are also committed to making society more sustainable.

To this end, our faculty has founded a Sustainability Commission. The commission consists of representatives from all levels of the faculty (students, mid-level faculty, professors) and has identified 6 core areas in which it would like to become active: teaching, research, laboratory, society, university and faculty. As a commission, we are guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the
