Obituary Jane Goodall

3 Oct 2025

Dr. Jane Goodall passed away on October 1, 2025, in California.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Dr. Jane Goodall, one of the most important behavioral scientists and environmentalists of our time. Her lifelong commitment to protecting chimpanzees and her deep connection to nature have inspired generations of people around the world. With courage, patience, and compassion, she researched the behavior of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom and fundamentally changed our understanding of humans and animals. But her work went far beyond science—until the very end, she fought for the preservation of our natural resources and a better future for humans, animals, and the environment.

In 1988, Jane Goodall received an honorary doctorate from LMU.

Her legacy lives on—in the forests of Africa, in the hearts of countless young people, and in every action taken out of respect for life.
