  • Angiosperm phylogenetics, systematics and biogeography, in particular Amaranthaceae, Melastomataceae, Crassulaceae, Aizoaceae, Polycarpeae (Caryophyllaceae) and Astragalus (Fabaceae)
  • Evolution of C4 photosynthesis and Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM)
  • Evolution and genetic basis of heteranthery
  • Museomics, population genomic and experimental approaches to investigate the adaptation and extinction of plants in changing environments, with focus on endangered species in Bavaria
  • Sustainable digitization and mobilization of natural history collections

Taxon-omics (DFG SPP 1991)

New approaches to discovering and naming biodiversity: Taxon-omics, a German network of 27 research projects that are focused on combining taxonomy using natural history museum specimens with new approaches for discovering and naming biodiversity. Taxon-omics funded under DFG priority program SPP 1991.

At the suggestion of the Princess Therese of Bavaria Foundation for the Promotion of Women in Science at LMU (https://www.frauenbeauftragte.uni-muenchen.de/foerdermoegl/lmu/therese/index.html) the Chair of Plant Systematics, Biodiversity and Evolution adopted the name of Princess Therese of Bavaria in its denomination in the summer semester of 2021 with the approval of the LMU university management and the Faculty of Biology. This makes the chair the first professorship at LMU to be named after a woman.
