Research Interest

I'm fascinated about the diversity and evolution of enigmatic (meiofaunal) micromolluscs.
My research focuses on different lineages of (poorly known) panpulmonate slugs and snails.

My research methods include traditional histology combined with modern imaging techniques (e.g. SEM, TEM, μCT
and 3D-modeling) and molecular methods.

Research projects:

  • Exploration of poorly understood anatomical and ultrastructural features
  • Morphological adaptations which come along with habitat shifts (from sea to land or sea to freshwater)
  • Evolution of feeding habits and food specialization in molluscs
  • Reconstruction of panpulmonate evolution using ultra-conserved elements
  • Changes of molluscan diversity of (pre-)alpine habitats due to climate change

  • Effects of salmon farming on meiofaunal assemblages in the fjords of Chilean Patagonia
