Human Biology

We explore human biology and evolution by using primate stem cells to understand regulatory change, mummies to reconstruct ancient worlds, antibodies to target disease, and bioimaging to uncover epigenetic mechanisms.

The Human Biology Section at the Faculty of Biology at LMU Munich consists of the three areas. Human Genomics investigates the evolution of gene regulation using genomic assays, induced pluripotent stem cells and mouse models. Anthropology, based primarily at the State Collection for Anthropology, studies past human populations through molecular, osteological, and isotopic analyses of skeletal remains. Human Biology and BioImaging investigates epigenetic mechanisms and disease using advanced light microscopy, antibody engineering, and proteomic approaches.
