Genomic Service Unit
Sequencing, Equipment, and Consumables Service
Sequencing, Equipment, and Consumables Service
The Genomics Servise Unit assists all scientists and students at the HighTechCampus in the field of nucleic acid analysis, e.g. Sanger sequencing, high-throughput sequencing, gene expression analysis, or sequencing data analysis. The Unit is headed by Andreas Brachmann.
We perform the sequencing for you, while at the same time assisting in experimental setup and providing easy access to specific equipment and tools for data analysis. Our goal is to enable you to perform the full experimental work flow in nucleic acid analyses as much by yourself as possible.
Samples for Sanger sequencing or fragment analysis are processed on two ABI 3730 capillary sequencers with 50 cm capillary length providing excellent fragment separation and sensitivity. For more details on the different service options and pricing please access the online booking system of the sequencing service.

Samples for high-throughput sequencing are processed on two Illumina MiSeq and one Illumina MiSeq i100. Questions on available sequencing options please directly to Andreas Brachmann.
High-end equipment is expensive and usually not used to full capacity by a single workgroup. Therefore, the aim of central units is to provide all scientists in the LMU Biocenter with access to specific equipment, which was acquired either by a workgroup, a section, or through special grant initiatives. In exchange, running costs and potential repairs are paid for by the central unit via user fees, wherever possible.
In the Equipment Room of the Genomics Service Unit (G02.039) you can find a large number of instruments, predominantly for genome and gene expression analysis.
Ordering in large quantities usually get's you a better price. This is the concept behind the consumables service of the Genomics Service Unit. Our stock of consumables contains mostly reagents for genome and gene expression analysis for use with the equipment provided by our central unit. Among them are:
