LSM Publication Prize 2026 — For the First Time Awarded to Two Winners!

We are delighted to announce that this year's LSM Publication Prize was awarded to two outstanding LSM researchers at the Open House Day at the LMU Biocenter on 1 July 2026.

🌿 Santiago Priego Cubero
Santiago was awarded the prize for his paper published in PNAS:
"Subfunctionalization and epigenetic regulation of a biosynthetic gene cluster in Solanaceae"

Santiago could not be present in person as he is currently a postdoc at the Instituto de Hortofruticultura Subtropical y Mediterránea (IHSM) in Málaga, Spain, where he continues his research on Mediterranean and subtropical crops. In February, he was additionally awarded an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship — a prestigious grant to support early-career life sciences researchers.

🔬 Felix Thoma
Felix was awarded the prize for his paper published in PLOS Genetics:
"Local mitochondrial physiology defined by mtDNA quality guides purifying selection"

Felix is currently a postdoc in the Osman Lab at the LMU Biocenter, where his research focuses on mitochondrial biology.
