Outreach project: Beneficial and harmful plant-microbe interactions – and how genetic diversity matters

In 2015, the United Nations agreed on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - at least six of them are strongly linked to plant health and agriculture. Developing and promoting sustainable agricultural solutions requires active engagement and open dialogue between science and society.

For this reason, the TRR356 integrates a comprehensive public outreach program alongside its research projects. The project aims at the dissemination of information on plant health and its importance for sustainable agriculture as well as the establishment of an open dialog between science and the public on topics related to this area.

The outreach project includes yearly exhibitions, a teaching path, guided tours, a science podcast and a variety of interactive, hands-on activities offered mainly at the Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg as well as at the LMU Biocenter in Martinsried. TRR356 scientists from all project areas contribute to these formats, be it as interview partners in the science podcast, as speakers at public symposia or events or with their data in the frame of the exhibitions. This helps us to bring scientists and the broader public together for a continuing dialog.

All events are open to anyone interested, regardless of prior scientific background. To ensure age-appropriate and accessible communication, special formats are offered for school classes, families, teachers, and students.
Current dates and detailed information about upcoming and past TRR356 outreach activities can be found in the Events section.
